Update of Haiti’s National Strategy on Gender and Elections
IFES is working with local women’s and human rights organizations in Haiti to update the National Strategy on Gender and Elections (SNGE) ahead of the country’s October 2019 legislative elections. On January 15, IFES conducted a workshop that served as a platform for representatives from these organizations to provide input on and suggest changes to each of the seven themes addressed by the SNGE.

On December 16, 2016, IFES conducted a training for persons with disabilities in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on advocacy for communicating with government stakeholders. The training focused on the adoption and implementation of a strategy for disability-inclusive elections.

Electoral Administration Better Prepared For A Stronger Democracy
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) organized two workshops in recent weeks on the Building Resources in Democracy, Governance, and Elections (BRIDGE) Program. Sessions specifically focused on access to electoral processes in order to strengthen the professional capacity of Haitian institutions and to ensure an effective transfer of technical skills in the field of election administration.

Voter Education in Haiti
After a close and controversial first-round presidential vote in November, on March 20 Haiti held a runoff election for its top two presidential candidates, Mirlande Manigat and Michel Martelly. As part of its technical assistance to the CEP, and in close coordination and cooperation with other partners, IFES organized a public information campaign reminding voters to check their registration information, confirm the location of their polling station and cast their ballots on Election Day.

Ce Manuel reprend de notes et de références sur le droit constitutionnel a Haïti. Le public auquel il s'adresse est de journalistes. “Je vais choisir un Senateur en Herbe” is a guide to candidates and voters, available in French, for a mock election for Senator meant to teach students more about the electoral system in Haiti. The guide, published by the Minister of National Education in April 1999, gives advice to candidates on how to write and deliver speeches as well as providing guidelines to voters on how to choose the appropriate candidate.
