Catherine Murphy is a Research Coordinator in IFES’s Center for Applied Research and Learning. She supports the research agenda of the Center, particularly as it relates to electoral operations and anti-corruption programming. She is one of the authors of “Lessons Learned Processes: Advancing to the Next Elections”, which provides practical advice for election management bodies that are holding post-election reviews of elections. These guidelines were endorsed by fifteen leading organizations engaged in global elections work, including the United Nations Development Programme, the Organization for American States, the European Commission, and others. She provides research for IFES’ ElectionGuide, which provides comprehensive information on every national-level election held worldwide. Additionally, she contributes to the work of the Center for Anti-Corruption and Democratic Trust (CACDT), including programming related to advancing anti-corruption advocacy efforts in transitional environments. 

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies with a concentration in Latin American Studies from the University of San Francisco, California. Prior to joining IFES, she was a research fellow at Pay Our Interns, a nonprofit that advocates for more equitable access to professional development, particularly through paid internships. She has also completed fellowships at the California State Legislature and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s Equity Division.
